I'd like to know about renting a small SUV, I've read that there maybe rough roads on the way to some locations, that would cause a two wheel drive vehicle issues.

Besides the major rental companies, are there any local rentals that may be more economical. How would I go about contacting these individuals ?

 Hey Jim,

In Costa Rica...your best option is to ALWAYS rent a 4x4 vehicle.  Just too many places where 4x4 is a must. Especially if you are coming to check out places to live.

If you are just coming to visit, sight see....and do the tourist thing...OK, probably don't need it.

While there are a few local rentals...it really isn't much of an option and finding them is just asking the locals.

Your only REAL option is the Major Rental Companies. Knowing what I know about Local people and dealing with them...I wouldn't be comfortable renting a vehicle from a small local rental company.

Hope that helps you out.

Allen
