I txted Allen about how to get my tools and workshop stuff to CR.......he said it would be expensive because of duty and, taking a few of them down as i flew would take along time. He also said that there may be a new law for expats to ship house hold items import tax free. Any other suggestions would help...thanks.
A lot of my friends shipped tools down here only to have them magically disappear. One guy lost over $20K while setting up his shop. Many toolboxes were lost in Customs after paying the taxes.
What are you planning to do?
I sold all my tools before I came which was very difficult for me as I'm a lifetime mechanic. Later, every time a friend came to visit, they brought me new ones in their luggage. I still have 4 suitcases pre-packed at "home" at 49 pounds each ready to go.

WOW....that is horrible...but that is the COLD, HARD, FACTS. It happens in Costa Rica because it is too easy for them to steal your stuff and then, NOTHING YOU (as a gringo) can do about it.
Thanks for sharing your experience!

So sorry that happened to you Creekster. Horrible thing to happen for sure. I am thinking of packing like you and letting friends and family bring suitcase at a time. Meanwhile, I am looking to Meet and chat with people on Zoom, if you are up for it, to make new friends and Talk Costa Rica 😊👋
