I haven't came across a video about yard maintenance (i.e. buying soil, tools, how to maintain a lawn, yard laws, property lines etc.) If anyone have any useful info, as well as best places or people to contact in certain areas that will take care of it, or trustworthy to buy house and yard tools, please feel free to drop it below! I'd even take a video link if I missed it.

In Costa Rica...they don't value yards like most people in the USA.

You simply need to look around and see what Tico comes around with his weed wacker, weed eater, and cuts grass.

When you rent, it all depends on the agreement you make with the landlord.  Some have taken care of the grass for us, others say it is your responsibility.

I am sure that MAYBE in San Jose it is a bit different or in very touristy areas...but we've not lived in any of those types of areas.

We have found, that if you talk to the locals or people at the hardware store, they will have contacts. Also, if someone calls themselves a landscaper, don't beleave them. They are good at planting things, but landscapers they are not. One thing to remember, the more plants that you have around your house and pool, gives snakes and creepy crawlys more places to hide. We had friends that rented a place with a pool that had trees that had exposed roots on them and the snakes loved hiding in them. After time the stopped using the pool because of it.

We are in Perez Zeledon and we hired the fellow that did the work for the previous owner...after checking that he was happy with the service. He and his son  do seem to have some in-depth plant knowledge and have advised us on fertilizing, pruning, companion planting and keeping snakes away!
