I think I want to live in the Southern Zone. Ideally, it would be at a 65-80 degree temperature elevation (1500-2500 feet) and have a view of the Pacific coast. Although I am in my 70's and healthy, decent medical facilities should be fairly close. My income will be around $3.5k a month.
What level of lifestyle should I expect based on an American standard? If not the Southern Zone, what other areas would you recommend?
I would need to share a place with someone. I can afford $250.00 US a month. I also need to be in a cooler quiet beautiful environment. I need access to medical care, a farmers market, transportation, and friendly helpful people. Also I need to know how to access my money which is in a Canadian bank, affordably.
Where can I look to find a decent place to rent. I am considering Grecia, Atenas and San Isidro De El General.

My family of 4 (including 2 children) have been considering a move to Costa Rica and have been doing our research over the past several months. I still haven’t pinpointed an area though for our family. What areas do you suggest to rent for a family with young, school age children? We’re planning on visiting soon too so we can get a better idea of the country we’ve been so excited about!
couple more questions:
How much for you recommend getting a home with AC? We live in the desert of Southern CA and are used to dry heat in the summer (highs of 105ish) but we used our AC in the Summer a lot. I believe their summer’s are quite humid so is a swamp cooler suitable enough?
when is the best time to search and get into a rental contract?
