I am super excited to be living in a place that is so plentiful with fruits and vegetables! Being a vegan in the US is pretty expensive. I have seen the video about shopping and the markets. Is there anyone here that is also eating this way? Maybe you can give us some tips. Living in the southern US, we find that 90% of the time, veggies have been cooked with some sort of meat. Am I right, Allen and Rebecca? lol (although I do love me some Andouille )
So, I am hoping that it is easy to find places to eat out with true vegetarian cuisine. (And I will bring my salt )
Thanks!

My husband and I are both vegan. We have been to CR a number of times and have had no problem finding healthy vegan food. We are currently awaiting our Residency papers and hope to move early next year.
We do enjoy eating fish and if someone invites us to their house, we don't make a fuss. I do love meat and nobody makes a better hamburger or steak than I do...(I think I might be bragging), but I watched the documentary on Netflix called
However, now that we are MOSTLY Vegan, we are healthier, feel better and NOW....nobody makes a better VEGAN burger than I do (I think I'm bragging again). Lol

HAHAHA! Bragging is ok, I will take you up on that! I will let you prove it to us. (I think I just invited myself over lol )
I have seen The Game Changers! And quite a few others. The Biggest Little Farm is my favorite. My ultimate dream is to have a homestead and use permaculture to live with happy animals and happy people. We shall see.
I have a few auto immune processes that cause inflammation and being vegan has changed my life. We are "mostly vegan", too. Same with being invited over. I would never insult anyone by not eating.
I am sooooo excited to have a wealth of fruits and veggies to choose from!
And the best veggie burger in CR!

Sorry I missed your reply. Yes, it would be great to meet up sometime. It sounds like we’re both interested in the Perez Zeledon area. I like to go to the sodas, inexpensive Costa Rican restaurants but I have found some strictly vegan restaurants in CR that were really good. The fresh fruit is so good. I also really like the gallo pinto and fried plantains. Yum!
We are Flexaterians: my husband (Jeff) is vegetarian and I (Mareen, pronouced Marine) am vegan because I inherit high cholesterol, although we both eat fish which is where the flexatarian comes in. We are in our 60's and have eaten this way since in our 20's.
I also have a Facebook group for people in Costa Rica who are Vegaterans and Vegans in which people joining but arent really active. The page is not only for camaraderie, but also where to find different ingredients, etc.
