Yes, You can go to the local post office in any town or I should say MOST towns. (not every town has a post office, only larger towns have a post office)
Some or most of the actual post office locations have a few Post Office Boxes you can rent. They will give you the address to that box, and you can have mail sent to that box.
IMPORTANT: While you can have mail sent there, it does take a long time for mail to arrive and it is NOT at all like in the USA. You can only check your mail when the Post Office is open.
Many times....I have gone to check my mailbox and find nothing in it....and just as I am leaving, the employee of the post office recognizes me and gets my attention to let me know I have mail. (SO then, you must ask yourself...WHY isn't the mail the employee JUST GAVE ME...not in the BOX I am paying for???). Because that is the PuraVida mentality! I guess it is too much trouble for them to actually put my mail in the box and MOST Costa Rican people do NOT get mail and when they do, they simply go to the post office and ask if their mail or their package came in.
